This Special Projects buyer role is pivotal to the buying team as it will bring projects to fruition that the Buying Director and the business wants to achieve in order to continue driving the company’s quality sourcing credentials and increase revenue to the business.  This role will range from sourcing single casks from all over the world to creating a TWE branded product, looking at gifting solutions and innovative packaging.   This is the perfect role for someone who has a passion for product and a creative mind.  

Key Responsibilities

•                     Work with buying director to source single casks and small batches from suppliers all over the world to release throughout the year

•                     Work with various distilleries/ brands to create special one off or ongoing projects for the business – manage and build those relationships

•                     Ensure cask/ products are brought at a competitive price and attain the correct margin as expected for the business

•                         Work with various streams of the business including design/ editorial/ retail / trade to ensure projects launched on time and with all parties aligned.  

•                         Working with marketing, buying director and press to ensure the projects are launched with maximum impact

•                         Checking competitor ranges (both UK and overseas) and products to ensure pricing comparable and that we have as broad a range of single barrels.

•                         Working with the Head Buyer on various projects that need to be delivered for the business with our parent company

•                         Working on innovative gifting solutions and packaging

•                         Working with independent bottlers and others to launch show bottling for Whisky/ Rum/ Cognac show managing the process and ensuring the product is delivered on time from end to end.


Essential Skills and Knowledge


•                     Very good palate, able to assess quality and balance within a product

•                     Strong Whisky knowledge

•                     Active listener who speaks clearly and articulately with excellent written skills

•                     Negotiation skills

•                     Previous experience delivering projects such as single casks or developing own label.

•                     Able to make rational decisions under pressure

•                     Knowledge of the drinks industry and a passion for its products

•                     Experience within drinks industry


•                     WSET or equivalent drinks certificate

•                     Connections within the industry from a distillery level
