Job Title: Shop Manager
Line Manager: Head Buyer
Contract Term: Permanent, full-time
Contracted Hours: 40hrs/week, 5 days in 7

The role of the Shop Manager is to ensure the smooth running of the shop on a daily basis both with managing staff/ service but also in all administrative tasks relating to the shop operations, including weekly banking requirements, stock management, setting sales targets, liaising with brands owners/suppliers, and overseeing the training and development of the retail sales team.   Achieving the financial targets for the shop through increased sales and targeting new business.  The ideal candidate is a first-class communicator with a passion for drinks and an eagerness to learn.

THE ROLE INVOLVES MOVING, STRETCHING, LIFTING, BENDING AND CARRYING OF BOXES AND MATERIALS.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Operations/Floor Management

  • Opening and closing the premises
  • Ensuring the Visual Merchandising of the shop is kept up and that the shop is always clean and tidy
  • End of day procedures and ensuring accurate cash management
  • Weekly banking management and sales performance reports
  • Organising corporate and private tasting events, and anticipating potential requirements
  • Customer service, sales and shop floor activities as required to maintain exceptional standards
  • Ensuring all health and safety requirements are met and making corrections where necessary
  • Working with local businesses and the in house marketing/ press / social teams to ensure that the shop is well marketed, and we are driving new business.

Team Management

  • Delegating roles and responsibilities to other staff
  • Completion of staff monthly Rota
  • Monitoring and organising holiday schedules
  • Ensuring correct staffing for all times of the year
  • Ensuring staff are correctly trained and motivated
  • Regular staff appraisals and performance reviews

Stock and Merchandising

  • Placing orders, ranging and tracking sales ensuring that there is constant newness and that the product on shelf is selling though. Keeping ranging up to date and fresh
  • Managing staff disciplinaries and any other staffing issues
  • Having a good range of stock that has high margins
  • Balance in the range
  • Continual update of old and rare stock working with Old and Rare buyer and Sukhinder to ensure adequate levels and interest
  • Back office operations including stock management, pricing and offers on Defacto
  • Manage bi yearly stock take

Product Knowledge and Personal Development

  • Continual development of product awareness and understanding for new and existing ranges
  • Liaising with brand representatives as required
  • Supporting a culture of continuous improvement

Key skills and knowledge

  • Previous management experience
  • Passion for spirits, and the drinks industry in general
  • Excellent communication and ability to manage a small, dynamic team
  • Strong sales track record and able to transfer skills to the drinks sector
  • Natural problem solver
  • Effective communication skills and ability to enthuse and motivate others
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Job Requirements

  • Must have flexibility to work shift patterns during weekdays and weekends
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Professional manner and tidy appearance
  • Previous experience in the drinks industry is desirable but not essential

  • Personal Licence
